The word sustainability includes meanings such as maintain, support, last. There is not only one definition of sustainability. There are many opinions about what it means and how it can be achieved. For us, sustainability could be the satisfaction of our needs without jeopardize the satisfaction of the needs of future generations.
Apart from natural resources, we also need social and economic resources. The key of sustainability is the balance between goods and raw material (spent to complete production). The goal of sustainable processes is to achieve more production with less consumption of raw material, which is why sustainability is directly linked to recycling, renewable energy sources and bioclimatic design.
Hows does a sustainable world looks like?
In a sustainable world, society, the economy and the environment must coexist harmoniously. More specifically:
Social Sustainability: it is the ability of a social system, such as the state or a family, to function at a certain level of prosperity and harmony indefinitely. Problems such as war, endemic poverty and low levels of education are signs that the system is socially unsustainable.
Financial Sustainability: "societies" around the world are independent and have access to the resources they need, financial e.t.c, to meet their needs. Financial systems are intact and resources are available to all.
Environmental Sustainability: the environment should not be affected from our needs. Earth's systems should be kept in balance, while natural resources should be consumed by humans at a rate that can replenished naturally.
